Hair Color Natural Levels

The level system is a range of hair color shades from dark to light.

Brown hair is characterized by higher levels of eumelanin and lower levels of pheomelanin. The lightness increases as the number increases ranging all the way to the lightest blonde shade. Blonde hair has a lower eumelanin level while brown hair has a higher concentration of eumelanin pigments.

In most cases these levels are determined by the natural hair pigment. Better Natured hair color levels range from 1-10 with 1 being the darkest black and 10 being the lightest lightest blonde. Dyes arent easy to sort out either.

Within each color family - coppers blondes browns blacks and grays - there are light medium and dark levels. The level system of hair color is a system used by colorists and hair color manufacturers to standardize hair color charts.
